GEL Spice Corporation

Spice Quality Assured by Centrifugal Sifter

Approximately four years ago, GEL Spice Corporation installed a new spice production line and at the same time raised its quality standards. The Bayonne, NJ., based manufacturer of seasonings installed a stainless steel Kason CENTRI-SIFTER Centrifugal Sifter in its new processing line to prevent granular oversize particles from entering the processing line.

Thanks to the dependability of Kason equipment and strict quality assurance procedures, the company can guarantee its customers that their spice or seasoning will be free of oversize particles.

GEL Spice takes this quality issue very seriously since it sells to retail outlets and to other companies that use the spices for prepared foods. Products including seasoned salt, chili powder, and blends of other seasonings give marvelous flavors to a wide variety of foods.

GEL Spice depends on a reliable sifting system that operates day in and day out, week after week. The Kason CENTRI-SIFTER serves this purpose well.

The MO model CENTRI-SIFTER is rated for a capacity of about 25,000 pounds (11,340 kg) per hour, but GEL Spice usually operates at about half this sifting rate. In addition to making sure that only high quality product enters the product line and reaches customers, the sifting provides a desirable density to the seasonings and blends, explained GEL Spice Plant Engineer Richard Bonicioli.

By ensuring that customers receive high, uniform quality seasonings and blends, GEL Spice keeps its customers and their discriminating palates satisfied. With consumers' growing appreciation for ethnic and regional foods, seasonings have become a key ingredient to successful marketing of new food products.
